New autonomous regions are important for development and prosperity

The pros and cons of the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua Province, received a response from one of Papua's senior figures, Michael Manufandu.

The former mayor of Jayapura, who is also a bureaucrat and diplomat, emphasized that the new autonomous regions in Papua must be expanded. Considering that Papua Province consists of 29 regencies/cities. The number of regencies and cities in Papua Province is admittedly too many.

"Because the requirements for the division of the province are only 5 or 6 regencies, it can be done, but if there are many like this, of course the regional leaders cannot maximize development and increase the economy and others," said Michael Manufandu to Cenderawasih Pos in the Sian Soor hall of the Jayapura Mayor's office, Monday. (23/5).

The former Indonesian Ambassador to Colombia said that the expansion of the new autonomous regions in Papua must be supported by all parties, so that Papua is peaceful, prosperous and the population feels an even increase in the economy.

Michael hopes that the government can socialize the aims and objectives of the expansion of Papua or the new autonomous regions so that the public can understand them.

"Those who do not agree with the expansion of new autonomous regions in Papua, the government must also be wise to explain to those who do not agree to know and accept it," he said.

Admittedly, the expansion of new autonomous regions in Papua is one of the government's policies to accelerate and improve people's welfare. Because in forming a province only has a minimum of 5 districts and a city can become a province. Meanwhile in Papua Province there are currently 29 regencies and cities making it difficult to control.

“In this case of democracy, it is okay for people to give their opinion, but we must know the principle of the government's decision. So we have to implement it, because there is no government policy that is detrimental to the people. We hope that the issue of the expansion of new autonomous regions can be socialized and explained to the public so that they understand that this is a good intention from the government," he concluded.
