LIRA Invites Papuan Youths to Prepare to Welcome DOB

The Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the People's Information Barn Youth ( Pemuda LIRA Papua Province) held a panel discussion with interfaith youth in Papua.

The activity, which was held in Waena, Jayapura City, 20 May, took the theme "Strategies for Accelerating Papuan Development from the Perspective of Interfaith Youth in Papua".

Present at the activity were interfaith figures from Papua Province, activists and representatives of youth organizations in Jayapura City.

Pastor Hiskia Rollo as the General Chair of the Fellowship of Churches in the Land of Papua (PGGP) who was also one of the presenters at the event told the young generation of Papua to take part in the development of Papua.

He said the current generation of youth must be prepared as well as possible to become good leaders for the future of Papua.

"Let us be actively involved in the process of nation and state development and especially development in the Land of Papua. Differences of opinion are natural between us, but don't let those differences prevent us from finding peace and prosperity," said Pdt. Heskia Rollo.

According to him, differences of opinion should be addressed properly, and as God's people, we must listen and use God's words as a guide for life, including the teachings of love that are conveyed.

“As a religious leader, especially PGGP, I urge God's people in Papua to be guided by what God said to Mathius 11 verses 28–30. God teaches us to respond to differences with love and humanity, not violence. God wills for the development of Papua to take place in God's love. May we not blame each other, but unite our hearts to build Papua in love and peace," he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Papua Province LIRA DPW, Steve RA Mara., M.Han told the media that it was important to carry out the activities held to provide an understanding of the role of Papuan youth in the development of the Indonesian nation and state, especially the Land of Papua.

"We really hope that this activity can be carried out simultaneously, so that there is enlightenment for our young people to actively participate in building Papua and the nation towards a golden Indonesia in 2045," he said.

He hopes that the young generation of Papua will not be complacent with the current situation, so that they will only think about demonstration activities and negative things, but think more strategically to prepare and accept all changes and differences that exist.

"Because the changes will keep coming. For example, today the center gave us a New Autonomous Region. We should really be grateful for this, because it will shorten the vulnerabilities of control. We who live far away, no longer need to go to Jayapura to meet the Governor, for example, but we can meet directly with the regional leaders in their respective regions, as well as the Regents who can directly coordinate with the Governor. This means it can be easier," he said.

He explained, if the current reality is that the condition of the people in the coasts and mountains is still far from prosperous, and this is the struggle of the government and all parties to be able to improve the situation.

"We see today it is very real, people on the coast and mountains, development is still less visible, as if the state is not present in those areas, even though this is because the level of control is far away. Let's be more open to the changes that exist. Prepare yourself for that," he said.

That said, the fear of negative impacts that will occur if there is an expansion is normal, but this can be overcome by the role of the government to protect OAP itself.

"I think the positive impact will be more, for example, many of our graduates are unemployed, these can later work as ASN for example and this is thousands, then there will be a regional head, the governor and his deputy, the regent and his deputy who are natives of the area, so I'm sure they will good impact. Then development will definitely be faster than not expanded. If it has a negative impact, it depends on the government, whether it can protect it or not. If I can protect it, I don't think OAP will be harmed,” he explained.

“We have to prepare ourselves academically. So that later, like the government's plan to open PNS OAP to fill the New Province, we can enter it. So my suggestion is also to the government to accommodate Papuan youth who are already undergraduates to be able to enter civil servants in the area. If possible without testing. Then also those who are entrepreneurs, must prepare themselves to be able to compete, "he continued.
