Commemorating Easter Day, the people of Jayapura City from various church denominations held a torchlight parade in downtown Jayapura which took place with joy, Sunday (17/4) yesterday morning.
From Cenderawasih Pos's monitoring, the torch relay activity which started at 03.00 WIT in the morning with the start point of each church, the congregation consisting of Sunday school youths and parents together went on a journey while praising God with joy around the path that had been determined by committee of each church.
The chairman of the Solidarity of Indigenous Papuan Traders (Solpap) Frengki Warer with the Children's Heart of the City Community, he said that if there was a merging of parades from each church, it would be better because this parade had one goal.
"I don't know about other churches, but at our GKI, each congregation if you want to make a clear route (parade), it is also necessary that next year there needs to be a gathering place, then we will go where in the specified direction, and it will be crowded. with praise, and it must also be with the support of the government so that the general practice of this Church is better," he said.
He said, the meaning of this activity is also to commemorate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died and rose and has become everyone's savior.
"Since 2 pm each region from APO, Doc 2 and Polimak, Klooffkam All gathered at one point and each church after the center in the city returned to the church, this is to commemorate the day of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ who died and rose again and has become the savior of everyone in the world," he said.
The coordinator of the Jayapura City Heart Children Community, Pastor Naomi Selan, after preparing market and street children for the torch parade, said that this Easter moment became the center of unity for God's people from various church denominations to see the cross together instead of seeing the church.
“So the Cross is seen and is higher than the church flag and this is what the Church, Christians and the government should pay attention to, which needs to be a big celebration for Christians in Papua and around the world. Easter moments like this should be celebrated. magnificently by showing the kinship of togetherness," he said.
