IGBA audition in Jayapura City passed 2 young badminton players



Around 100 young badminton players auditioned for the second stage of the Indihome Gideon Badminton Academy or IGBA which was held at the Wiguna Badminton Court, Jayapura City, Sunday (13/2/2022). A number of two young badminton players from Jayapura City passed the audition, and won a golden ticket for a one-year training scholarship at the Gideon Badminton Academy.

The selection of the IndiHome Gideon Badminton Academy scholarships nationally takes place in a number of stages. The first stage is an online audition, where each audition participant makes a video with a maximum duration of 5 minutes which is uploaded to their Youtube account. The audition video must contain the motivation of the audition participants, and show the audition participant's badminton game.

It was the participants who passed the online audition who on Sunday took an offline audition at the Wiguna Badminton Court. The audition on Sunday was attended by athletes from seven badminton clubs in Jayapura City and Regency, including the Mandala Badminton Association (PB), PB Cendrawasih, PB FIK Uncen, PB Volta Jaya, PB Cahaya Timur, PB Cemara Jayapura Regency and PB Bimantara Regency. Rajendra Dafa Al Basit (12 years old) from PB Mandala and Ode Nelman Depemotouw (11 years old) from PB Cenderawasih passed the audition on Sunday. "It took only two people. Because Papuan athletes are prioritized, the two athletes who qualify will immediately receive a golden ticket for a one-year training scholarship at the Gideon Badminton Academy," said Dwi Santoso, a talent scout and researcher for developing badminton athletes in the region, to the Jubi media crew, Sunday.

With the golden ticket, Rajendra and Depemotouw do not need to take part in the physical selection stage at the IndiHome Gideon Badminton Academy Hall. The physical selection stage will select 10 other young badminton athletes to get a training scholarship for 1 year at the Gideon Badminton Academy, Ciangsana, Bogor, West Java. Indonesian National Team badminton athlete, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon will be one of the judges in the physical selection stage.

The academy, which was inaugurated on August 28, 2020, has 10 badminton courts, a fitness center, and a dormitory. Gideon's father, Kurniahu Gideon, is a figure who has contributed to the creation of the Gideon Badminton Academy. He acts as the head manager, and recruits young, talented badminton players.

Markus said that the badminton academy had been his dream for a long time. “His dream is to help children, support them so they can achieve their dreams, become a world player, and enter the National Training Center. That's the target first," said Markus.
 
Director of Consumer Service Telkom, Venusiana stated that through the IndiHome Gideon Badminton Academy (IGBA) Scholarship program, Gideon and Telkom provide scholarship facilities to talented young badminton athletes, with a maximum age of 15 years. The scholarship includes facilities for practicing badminton for 1 year and educational assistance worth Rp. 1 million for 1 year.

The scholarship recipients will be trained to practice twice a day, every day, for a year. During this period, scholarship recipients will also receive accommodation facilities, uniforms, and training equipment. They also get pocket money worth IDR 500,000 per month, BPJS contributions worth IDR 150,000 per month.

"This is an effort to raise the spirit of moving forward with IndiHome for the younger generation, especially aspiring young Indonesian badminton athletes. Hopefully, they can move forward in developing their abilities, both academically and non-academicly," said Venusiana.
