Papua Bulog targets to absorb 46 thousand tons of rice from Merauke farmers

The Bulog Regional Office for Papua and West Papua targets the absorption of rice procurement from farmers in Merauke Regency as much as 46 thousand tons by 2022.

Head of the Bulog Regional Office for Papua and West Papua Guna Dharma in a press release in Jayapura, Wednesday, said that the Merauke rice is a medium-type Public Service Obligation (PSO) category that will be distributed to the TNI-Polri and State Civil Apparatus (ASN).

"As much as 46 tons of Merauke rice is also included for supply availability and price stabilization such as market operations are also prepared in the event of a natural disaster," he said.

According to him, even the current stock of rice is procured from Merauke Regency and imported from outside Papua such as East Java and South Sulawesi.

"Papua and West Papua are rice deficit areas where the production is only in Merauke Regency," he said.

He explained that his party also guarantees that the availability of rice in Papua and West Papua will be in a safe position for the next three months.

"This is because the stock of rice for the next three months is available as much as 34 thousand tons," he said again.

He added that his party hopes that the public will not worry about the availability of rice because Bulog continues to monitor both traditional and modern markets.
