A total of 290 electricity substations from a total of 297 PT PLN (Persero) substations affected by flooding in Jayapura, Papua Province as of Sunday (9/1) at 19.00 WIT have been restored. General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region Abdul Farid said his party was trying their best to restore the electricity system in Jayapura and its surroundings.
"PLN is moving quickly to restore the electricity system in Jayapura as a result of the flash flood which damaged the substations and electricity infrastructure in Jayapura," he said in Jayapura City, Monday (10/1).
According to Farid, as of Sunday evening WIT, the repair progress had reached 97 percent. A total of seven substations are still being restored by officers in the field. "This is due to the fact that there are substations that are still submerged in the flood. We have deployed as many as 225 officers," he said.
Farid explained, there are still three flood-affected locations that are in the process of being repaired waiting for the water to recede, namely at BTN Gajah Mada Sentani, Nimbokrang, and Ayapo Village in Jayapura Regency, as well as part of the Organda Dalam Abepura complex in Jayapura City. "We apologize for the inconvenience, for the time being we can't turn on the electricity in these locations, we are trying to restore electricity supply to customers," said Farid.
PT PLN, he said, appealed to the public to continue to be vigilant amid the intensity of the rain and the potential dangers of extreme weather. For people who see the potential danger of electricity, are expected to immediately report to the contact center PLN 123 and PLN Mobile. "For the public, don't be near power lines, substations, PJU panels or trees that have the potential to collapse when extreme weather occurs," said Farid.
