ULMWP in its various campaigns has always touted itself as an organization for the struggle for the liberation of Papua. However, in its journey with the assumption that it is a central organization with a large power base, it ultimately undermines the credibility of the ULMWP. So that currently there is a lot of discussion about ULMWP which is considered to be not in line with the direction of the struggle. (22/12)
Through the Spokesperson for the Papuan People's Petition (PRP), the ULMWP leaders are considered to have never wholeheartedly carried out the struggle for the liberation of Papua in a genuine way. Victor Yeimo assesses that every decision made by ULMWP is always profit-oriented for its leaders.
“There has never been a decision taken from a people's point of view, what ULMWP did was only to strengthen its position. They are very good at making profits. That's what we call now that the ULMWP is not working wholeheartedly,"
Even if the ULMWP is considered to only want to control Papua, Victor Yeimo emphasized that these actions are no different from the current practice of colonialism. Instead, he thinks that if ULMWP colonialism flares up, it will have a more severe effect because the perpetrators are Papuans themselves.
“If it is allowed to continue, it will be very dangerous, the ULMWP has no control over its actions, there will be colonialism practices that are no different from today, or even worse. That means the Papuan people are being lied to, especially the Papuans themselves,"
Victor suspects that the colonialism that the ULMWP is pursuing has started when the organization chaired by Benny Wenda was formed. According to him, ULMWP is an organization that is intentionally forced to "castrate" other organizations. Even now, the ULMWP, which was originally only a forum for organizations, has dared to claim to be its own country.
“Initially, it claimed to be an organization that defends the rights of the Papuan people, but what is happening now is that the ULMWP has actually metamorphosed into claiming to be its own country. The pressure on the ULMWP must be massive so that this organization does not want to do it on its own,”
Victor Yeimo, as a seasoned activist, actually said that if the ULMWP deserved to be dissolved, he, on behalf of the PRP, was also willing to be responsible for taking over the entire role of the ULMWP. Victor argued that the PRP as an institution could be more accountable for its actions and movements. Even Victor explained that PRP missions abroad were never raw and always yielded success.
“My concern for the Papuan people has prompted the idea that the ULMWP would be better off disbanded. There is no need to be confused about who the successor will be, there are many organizations that are fighting for the people. The PRP is also capable, everyone knows that we have even recorded a struggle that caused an uproar by the United Nations and the world,"
