The Jayapura City Tourism Office has opened a new tourist destination spot, namely Hamadi Mangrove Ecotourism to help increase Jayapura City's Original Regional Revenue (PAD).
This was conveyed by the Secretary of the Jayapura City Tourism Office, Erid Rumansara, to Tribun-Papua.com in his office, Tuesday (21/12/2021).
"We hope that with this new tourist destination in Jayapura, namely mangrove ecotourism, it can bring in the economy, as well as increase PAD for Jayapura City," he explained.
According to Erid, this could happen considering that the current PAD in Jayapura City is 70%, coming from the tourism sector.
"Obviously if we open new tourist destinations, such as Hamadi Mangrove Ecotourism, it is expected to increase the number of tourist visitors," he said.
He added, with the number of visitors or tourists increasing in a tourist destination, it will indirectly have an impact on economic growth.
"The surrounding community will be empowered, selling Papuan accessories or crowns, as well as snacks in ecotourism areas, so this will certainly have an impact on the community," he continued.
In addition to improving the economy, with the emergence of the Mangrove Ecotourism destination, Hamadi also said that Erid could become educational material for students and the community about the importance of mangroves for the ecosystem.

"Mangrove ecotourism does not only talk about improving the economy, but it can also be used as a means of learning, research, and study tours," said Erid.
On that occasion, Erid informed that the construction of the rafting road in the Hamadi Mangrove Ecotourism Area is a 2021 program, which is sourced from the Central Government's physical funds through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
"Where we make this program is in accordance with the strategic plan of the Dispar Jayapura City, which refers to the vision and mission of the Jayapura City Government," he continued.
Regarding the management of Hamadi's Mangrove Ecotourism in the future, Erid said that his party will sit down with the community to arrange how to manage ecotourism.
Finally, Erid appealed that when the Hamadi Mangrove Ecotourism has been inaugurated and opened, visitors or tourists can maintain the existing facilities properly, and not do prohibited acts.
