The government plans to take a welfare approach in responding to problems in the Papua Province. This is supported by the Chief of Army Staff (KSAD) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman.
KSAD General Dudung, will prepare personnel to carry out social-territorial operations as directed by the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa.
This statement was made by Dudung after meeting with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD at his office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, together with the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Commander Major General Ignatius Yogo Triyono and the XVIII/Casuari Military Commander Major General I Nyoman Cantiasa.
"We, the Army, fully support and will prepare our ranks for the program," said Dudung in a video broadcast on the YouTube of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tuesday (7/12/2021).
As KSAD, he focuses on the duties of personnel in coaching, while operations are in the hands of the TNI Commander. According to him, the details of what is meant by the welfare approach to Papua have been directed directly by Coordinating Minister Mahfud.
"We have received direction from the Coordinating Minister, we will support the government program that has been launched by the President. This is followed up by the TNI Commander that in Papua the approach is a humanitarian approach, namely carrying out territorial operations which include guidance to the community," he said.
Previously reported, Mahfud said that the government continues to conduct dialogue and overcome various problems in Papua through a welfare approach.
This is in accordance with the mandate of Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2020 concerning the Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua Province and West Papua Province and Law (UU) Number 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua.
"The approach that will be used is the welfare approach, in which the resources owned by the government, be it apparatus, personal, or financial, will be focused on efforts to build prosperity in a collaborative, comprehensive work, in accordance with the Presidential Instruction," he said.
Mahfud added, in addition to taking a welfare approach, the government continues to prioritize dialogue in the context of developing Papua. According to him, Papua is part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia just like other regions in Indonesia.
"We will continue to carry out dialogue, because as long as the community knows we will continue to have dialogue. I invite them here, to have a dialogue with traditional leaders, academics, religious leaders, leaders of youth organizations, we will continue to prioritize dialogue in the context of developing Papua, " he said.
