Kapolda Asks Residents in Prone Areas to Report Police When Gardening

The Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri asked civil society, especially non-native Papuans, who live in vulnerable areas to be vigilant at all times, including when gardening. This is so that there are no civilian casualties.

"Never be careless, including when going to the garden, because it can be life-threatening, as happened to Yatiman Hadi (52) in Dekai who died after being mistreated by an unknown person (OTK) while gardening," said Fakhiri in Jayapura City, Papua Province, Sunday. (26/12).

If necessary, he said, residents would inform members of the National Police at the Resort Police or Polsek before gardening. The goal is for the police to be able to inform whether the area is categorized as safe or not. According to Fakhiri, there are indeed several areas in Papua that are categorized as vulnerable.

The vulnerable category is, either from armed groups (KKB) or criminals, including those in Yahukimo District. Until now, he said, the police were still conducting investigations related to the perpetrators of the persecution that killed civilians in Dekai.

"It is not yet certain whether the perpetrators of KKB or not because the data collected is still minimal," said Fakhiri when asked about the case of mistreatment of Yatimin who suffered injuries while going to the garden, around Kali Brasa, Dekai District.

According to the report received, according to Fakhiri, after being stabbed and injured in the head, the victim called a colleague. The victim told the condition and the location where he was so that his friend came and took him home.

Upon arriving home, said Fakhiri, the victim was taken to the hospital. However, after receiving treatment, Yatimin's life could not be saved. The victim's body was evacuated to the city of Surabaya, East Java on Saturday (25/12) to be buried in his hometown in Jember.

When asked about the vulnerable areas, the Kapolda said that apart from Yahukimo, there were several areas in the Bintang Mountains, Puncak, Intan Jaya and Nduga Regencies. "Stay alert when going to areas far from settlements and prone to crime," said Fakhiri.
