7,060 Land Certificates were handed over to West Papuans



A total of 7,060 parcels of land certificates were handed over to the people of West Papua Province spread over 9 regencies and cities on Wednesday (15/12/2021).

This was conveyed by the Head of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency of West Papua Province Freddy Kolintama in the event of the Handing over of Certificates to the People by the Minister of ATR/BPN in the Provinces of NTT, West Papua and Papua, which was broadcast via Youtube today.

On that occasion Freddy again explained that West Papua has a land area of ​​around 9.7 hectares and of that area as much as 91 percent is forest area.

While the other 9 percent are included in other use areas (APL) which includes as much as 4 percent of the indicative map area and the termination of the issuance of new permits.

"With this condition in West Papua Province, there are 726,666 parcels of land and as many as 335,454 parcels have been registered," said the Head of the Regional Office of the National Land Agency of West Papua Province.
 
Furthermore, Freddy explained that as much as 53.9 percent of the total area that is still the task of the West Papua Provincial government to register the land until 2025.

The West Papua government's projection regarding the completion of mortgage rights certificates (SHT) until 2021 is 90.40 percent.

"The problem is that there are still customary and ulayat land owners who are reluctant to certify their land and release their land to other communities," added Freddy.

In addition, there are also ownership disputes, both regarding territorial boundary disputes and disputes in general.
