The national level sports competition was again held in Bumi Papua. The XVI Papua National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in 2021 was officially opened by Vice President Ma'ruf Amien on Friday (5/11).
Also present to accompany the Vice President at the Manggala Stadium, Jayapura City, were the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amien in his speech said that the XVI Papua National Peparnas 2021 is a special event. It's not just a sports competition, it's more of a momentum to prove the spirit of equality for the whole community.
"Let's celebrate in the spirit of brotherhood to achieve the goal of creating sports achievements," said the Vice President.
He also said that the Peparnas XVI event which was held right after the XX National Sports Week (PON) grand event last October was a manifestation of the government's commitment to creating equality for athletes with disabilities so that they were equal to non-disabled athletes.
Vice President Ma'ruf advised that athletes with disabilities who will compete at the Peparnas XVI Papua National Sports Festival in 2021 can continue to light the torch of enthusiasm to achieve achievements and never give up.
As is known, Peparnas XVI Papua in 2021 will be attended by athletes with disabilities from 34 provinces in Indonesia. There are 12 sports that are competed with 602 match numbers.
"(Athletes with disabilities) must be able to do what other people can. Obstacles should not hinder their aspirations to achieve achievements. If people can do it, so can I," said Ma'ruf.
On that occasion, the Vice President also stated the same thing as conveyed by President Jokowi through video recordings. The Peparnas event, which is now opened by the Vice President, will be officially closed by President Joko Widodo, who will be present at the Mandala Stadium, Jayapura City, Papua, 15 October.
The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, who is now present to accompany the Vice President at the opening of Peparnas XVI Papua in 2021, will continue his working visit tomorrow in Jayapura City and its surroundings related to Coordination, Synchronization and Control (KSP) tasks in the field of human and cultural development.
