Good news comes from the land of Cenderawasih. Bank Indonesia stated that Papua experienced the highest economic growth in Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Head of BI Papua Representative Naek Tigor Sinaga at the annual meeting of Bank Indonesia (BI) also held by Bank Indonesia Papua Representative, Wednesday (24/112021).
Naek emphasized that Papua Province will be the area with the highest economic growth in the third quarter of 2021.
“Papua has the highest economic growth in Indonesia. In the third quarter, we grew by 14.54 percent," Naek Tigor told reporters at the Horison Ultima Entrop Hotel, Wednesday (24/11/2021) afternoon.
Furthermore, said Tigor, with the existing steps, he is optimistic that the Papuan economy will become a safety valve for national economic growth.
"We are number 2 in the eastern region of Indonesia after South Sulawesi with a contribution of 14 percent and number 17 at the national level with a contribution of 1.37 percent. What does it mean, it means that Papua is the savior god of the national economy,” he said.
The contribution of economic growth from Papua cannot be separated from its flagship sector, namely the mining sector and also the implementation of the Papua PON.
It is noted that the contribution of the mining sector currently reaches 54.6 percent. Meanwhile, PON itself is considered as a momentum for the recovery of the non-mining sector.
BI believes that economic growth can be maintained, one of which is through innovation and digitalization that can penetrate all fields.
“Digitalization can make life unusual. So, there must be a digitalization effect. Innovation and digitization are equally important. Both are ways to maintain high-speed economic growth,” he said.
Including the synergy in the formation of the Regional Digitization Acceleration and Expansion Team (TP2DD) by conducting the Rapid Control Towards One Price Papua (Pace Champion) program. These breakthroughs will be maximized by working together, both BI, provincial and district governments, OJK and related institutions.
“This is an important key in order to maintain economic growth in Papua. We believe that with this cooperation, economic growth in 2022 can be above 10 percent."
"We also believe that digitalization will change the pattern of the economy in Papua to be more advanced in the future," concluded Naek.
