History, Papuan Futsal Wins Gold Medal

Papuan Futsal finally managed to increase the host's medal tally after winning a gold medal at the XX 2021 PON. In the final, Papuan Futsal defeated the defending champion West Java with a score of 4-2 at the Mimika Futsal GOR, Sunday (3/10). Papua Futsal goals were created by Brian Ick with 2 goals, M. Najib with one goal and Yosep Mikus with one goal

While the bronze medal was won by West Nusa Tenggara Futsal after beating East Java with a score of 5-1.

This result is a new historical record for Papuan Futsal, where for the first time Papuan Futsal can win a gold medal at the PON event. Indeed, Papuan Futsal has never felt the glory of standing on the champion podium in the celebration of the National Sports Week or PON. The reason is, so far, the best achievement of Papuan Futsal is only being able to become a contestant for PON XVIII 2012 Riau.

Papuan Futsal every PON performance always has ambitions for teeth. Unfortunately, those in PON XVIII ran aground in the preliminary round, then XIX failed in the PON pre-qualification round. And PON XX Papua is the first time that Papuan Futsa has stood on the championship podium.

The achievement of Papuan Futsal also fulfills the dream of the PSSI Papua Asprov which long ago had set a gold medal target for the three sports they fostered, Men's and Women's Soccer and Futsal.

The journey of Papuan Futsal at PON XX 2021 was fairly smooth, crushing all opponents in the group A stage, Papua then advanced to the semifinals as group winners with perfect scores. In the semifinals, it was East Java's turn to be sacrificed by Daud Henri Arim's troops before crushing West Java in the final round.

"This is history for us in Papua, we have also maintained the trust and targets given by the management of both the Asprov PSSI Papua and KONI Papua have been achieved," said Daud Arim when contacted via his cell phone after the match.

“We got gold, we already got gold from men's and women's football. I hope that men's football can also get gold so that the target of the Chairman of the Asprov PSSI Papua is achieved, as conveyed to the management of KONI Papua that from Asprov PSSI, men's football must be gold, "continued Daud Arim.

Daud Arim also expressed his appreciation to all his players who performed consistently since the preliminary, semifinal and final rounds.

"Thank you to the players who have been amazing playing with high spirits and have a commitment to win in their own land. This means that futsal itself has automatically passed to the next PON. We will continue to strive to make Papua proud in the national arena,” said Daud Arim.
