Papuan Students in Solo to Pigai: Don't Be Like That, Watch Your Words!

The tweet of a former member of the National Human Rights Commission, Natalius Pigai, was regretted by a Papuan living in Solo, Central Java. According to him, as a Papuan who has been a state official, it is inappropriate for Pigai to make such an assessment of the people of Central Java, Jokowi and Ganjar Pranowo.

"As a Papuan, don't be like that. If the criticism is that, I don't agree," said a student from Papua in Solo, Yehud (29), to detikcom, Monday (4/10/2021).

Yehud is one of the senior students from Papua who is studying in Solo. He was elder by fellow Papuan students in Solo. Especially after the official organization that accommodates Papuan students in Solo disbanded since 2019, Yehud has increasingly become a reference for his friends' attitudes.

Yehud also regretted Pigai's words which were crowded on social media. According to him, as someone who has served in the government should not convey this.

"Don't let trivial issues get published," he said.

The reason is, there is a separate impact from every public figure disclosed. In fact, for other Papuans who are not related and do not know anything like him.

"As a figure, he has broad thoughts and keeps his words and pays attention to the impact it has on other residents," he said.

Yehud has lived in Solo, Central Java for 5 years. So far, he admits that he doesn't feel there is a problem with the natives of Solo. "Since 5 years of college and living in Solo, I feel the same as living in Papua. Friendly, safe and comfortable," said Yehud.

"It all depends on us too, in Solo, the speech is smooth, the bond here is also good. There is no difference," he continued.

As previously reported, Natalius Pigai's tweet shocked many when he attacked with words that were considered racist. The contents of Natalius Pigai's tweet are as follows:

"Don't believe the people of Central Java, Jokowi & Ganjar. They robbed us of our wealth, they killed the people of Papua, trampled on the dignity of the Papuan people with lowly words, racism, monkeys and trash. We are not lowly. We fight injustice to the last drop of blood. I am against injustice) ." Pigai tweeted via his Twitter account, @NataliusPigai2.
