Head of Division II PB PON XX Papua, Roy Letlora, invited the media to raise positive news and news from Papua, as a stimulus to boost the social and economic quality of local communities.
He considered that PON would be a new window for Papua to be better known with a positive assessment, considering that so far this easternmost province has always been synonymous with issues of violence and development injustice.
"We are very sorry that security issues in Papua are played out too often. Also try to see that the social aspect and tolerance there are going very well. Don't because there are security problems and other positive issues are actually covered up," Roy said at a press conference in Jakarta .
PON is expected to be a leverage for the Papuan economy to increase, therefore good news is believed to have a direct impact on investment interest and visits from outside the region to increase income.
Through this big agenda, PB PON also ensures that security in Papua is under control, negative news circulating can be broken with the latest evidence.
"We believe that athletes and supporters can come in healthy and safe, so will they return home. We hope that the media crew will report a balanced report. The economy will grow, so social life will also get better," he said.
PON XX Papua on October 2-15 will be held in four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency.
Statistically, there are a total of 44 international arenas used to facilitate competition from 37 sports, 56 disciplines, and 681 matches.
A total of 2,239 medals will be contested by 7,199 athletes who compete. PON Papua will also be enlivened by the arrival of 3,580 officials, 60 technical delegates, 1,147 national referees and 30 foreign referees, as well as 53 organizing committees.
