The Papuan PON bus driver in the Jayapura City cluster is dominated by OAP

Head of the Papuan Transportation Agency, Recky D. Ambrauw, said that micro bus drivers serving athletes and officials at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in the Jayapura City cluster were dominated by Papuan natives or OAP.

"The transportation service for athletes and micro bus officials for PON Papua is 88 units, all drivers are OAP," said Ambrauw while accompanying the Head of Sub-PB PON Jayapura City, Benhur Tomi Mano, to inspect buses parked at the former PTC Entrop Terminal, Jayapura City, Thursday (16/9/2021).

Ambrauw said that the Papuan Transportation Service was given the authority by the Ministry of Transportation to recruit drivers at the request of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe.

“For medium buses, there are 88 units from outside. We have carried out technical guidance on the introduction of the terrain or the road to the competition venue and where athletes and officials stay," said Ambrauw.

Ambrauw hopes that the OAP driver who is trusted to drive the micro bus at PON XX will carry out their duties properly and responsibly, as a form of service and support for the successful implementation of PON in Jayapura City.

Ambrauw added that as many as 217 micro bus units spread across four XX PON clusters were all driven by OAP, with a total of 261 drivers (including backup drivers).

“Services or transportation routes have been arranged according to each sport. Driver rights and fuel (diesel) are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation, we are only responsible for operations, eating and sleeping. I hope for understanding from motorists, especially in Jayapura City, to obey traffic signs to avoid congestion," said Amrbrauw.

Head of Sub-PB PON Jayapura City, Benhur Tomi Mano, said the involvement of OAP drivers in PON XX is a concern of the central government and local governments in empowering local communities.

“Maintain the good name of Jayapura City by providing the best service for our guests (athletes and officials). This is also part of making our beloved city proud,” said Tomi Mano.

Tomi Mano hopes to prioritize coordination and communication so that transportation services for athletes and officials do not experience problems, especially when going to the match venue.

"That's what you hope so that our guests feel happy and happy with the services we provide," said Tomi Mano, who also serves as Mayor of Jayapura.
