Papua as the host for the XX National Sports Week (PON) 2021 has many good quality venues, one of which is the Archery Venue in the Archery Area of the Kingmi Complex, Kampung Harapan, Jayapura Regency.
Secretary General of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Archery Association (PB. Perpani) Dr. Nyak Amir expressed his admiration for the XX Archery Venue.
"After the Archery Venue in Senayan, the second one is in Papua," he said on the first day of the Archery match.
Central Java coach, Permadi Sandra also admitted the same thing. He conveyed the stands, official tents, and good layouts. Permadi also added that the Archery PON XX venue is almost similar to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics venue. The wind character is similar.
Permadi said that the wind conditions at the venue were unpredictable. "We can't predict yet, because it's reported that the weather here is easy to change," he said.
However, wind conditions like that actually make athletes have good abilities.
"Under any conditions, athletes must be ready," said Permadi, who is also the coach of the Indonesian National Team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, the General Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Central Indonesian Armed Forces (Purn.) Marciano Norman who visited the inaugural Archery match hoped that from PON XX there would be great athletes who would achieve achievements at international competitions.
"Archery is one of our leading sports. We hope that in the upcoming Olympics, they can achieve the same achievements as at the 1988 South Korean Olympics. Indonesia's history of getting medals at the Olympics is from archery," he said.
Archery is the first leading sport besides badminton, weightlifting, boxing and rock climbing according to the Great Design of National Sports (DBON).
Nyak Amir added that many new athletes had passed the pre-qualification so that they could compete in the XX PON. "Of the 20 provinces that passed the PON pre-qualification conducted in 2019, 50% were newcomers. Those present here are 160 athletes who competed, around 80 people are new faces," he said.
The newcomers mentioned by the Secretary General of PB. Perpani competed with archery athletes representing Indonesia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, such as Riau Ega Agatha from East Java, Alvianto Bagas from Central Java and others.
"Of course we are optimistic that in the future, especially as suggested by the Chairperson of the Central KONI, that we are projected that in 2024 later, the Paris Olympics, we can carve out the history of the Seoul Olympics in 1988," he continued.
The archery competition was held to compete for 15 medal numbers from Recurve, Compound, and national. Each has individual numbers for men, women, men's teams, women's teams and mix teams.
