The head of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Representative for Papua, Frits Ramandey, opened his voice regarding the actions of the armed criminal group (KKB) in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains, Papua.
He considered the KKB violence in Papua to have violated human rights and was considered a terrorist act.
"Although Komnas HAM objected to the labeling of terrorists against the OPM, because it could attract international attention, these actions can already be categorized as groups characterized by terrorists," said Frits in a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday (29/9/2021).
Komnas HAM Papua is also currently dealing with violence in Kiwirok against the community and health workers.
From the statements of five victims who came to Komnas HAM, the action has fulfilled the elements of human rights violations, referring to Law Number 39 Article 1 point 1.
"This action has removed the sense of security, the right to life and is an act of direct attack on health workers," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Expert Staff of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Sri Yunanto, added that the KKB action had entered the criteria for terrorism.
This refers to Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.
