The PON Fire Carnival trip to Kuala Kencana Mimika received an enthusiastic response from the residents of Kuala Kencana, Tuesday (28/9).
Since 13.30 WIT, it seems that the community has packed the Jalan Kuala Kencana section which will be passed by the PON fire-carrying athlete group.
At around 14.00 WIT, the group of the PON Fire Carnival arrived at the Kuala Kencana courtyard where the Mimika Regent, Eltinus Omaleng, released the PON Fire Carnival carrier.
Along the way, the PON fire carnival received a rousing welcome from residents who lined the roadside. Residents shouted support for the success of the XX PON in Papua, especially in Mimika.
Apparently, the residents of Kuala Kencana who watched also brought their children, there were even residents who sat in wheelchairs who also watched.
Olivia Tomasoa, a resident of RT 1 Kuala Kencana who is desperate and excited to watch the PON Fire Carnival even though she is only sitting in a wheelchair.
"I really welcome the implementation of PON in Papua, especially in Mimika, which is the host. This proves that we can do it,” said Olivia.
So happy, Olivia walked as far as 3 kilometers from RT 1 using a wheelchair to the release point of the PON Fire Carnival.
“We are happy that PON can finally be held in Mimika. We certainly can and can be good hosts,” he said.
Olivia also invites the public to welcome PON XX activities, as a good host. Let's leave all differences behind, see that this event has a positive impact and provides values for good human relations, and can get to know all the ethnic groups that exist.
“We know that the presence of athletes is a blessing to us. I urge and hope that let's make PON XX Papua a success," he said.
