Gunfight in Papua, a policeman was shot in the chest

Armed contact between TNI-Polri officers and armed criminal groups (KKB) again occurred in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains, Papua on Tuesday (28/9).
A police officer serving in the Nemangkawi Task Force was shot.

"It's true [there was a gunfight and an officer was shot]. He didn't die, he was hit by debris," said Head of Operations Nemangkawi, Brigadier General Ramdani Hidayat when confirmed, Tuesday (28/9).

Currently, the police officer is receiving treatment at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital, Jayapura.

From the information gathered, the name of the member of the Task Force who was shot was Inspector One (Iptu) Budi Basra. He was shot in the chest and evacuated by other personnel in a conscious state after gunfire.

The shooting occurred at around 06.40 WIT. It is suspected that the KKB involved in the attack was the leader of Ngalum Kupel

Iptu Budi was then evacuated using a Police Helicopter at around 07.45 WIT from Kiwirok Airport to Oksibil Airport. While trying to evacuate at the airport, the helicopter was interrupted by fire.

The escalation of firefights in the Kiwirok area had peaked in the last few days. Medical personnel were allegedly attacked by KKB on Monday (13/9). A total of two health workers are reported missing. After a search, the officers found the two health workers in the ravine. One of them was found dead.

On Sunday (26/9), a Brimob member who served in the Nemangkawi Task Force, Posthumously Bharatu Muhammad Kurniadi died in a gun battle.

Referring to the official statement from the Nemangkawi Task Force, the incident began when gunshots were heard from the front of the Kiwirok Police Station at around 4:50 WIT. In response, the officers on guard carried out ambush or ambush in the direction of the gunshots.

Bharatu Muhammad Kurniadi was one of the personnel who opened the perimeter or the ambush road along with another officer.

While opening the road, Kurniadi was then hit by a shot where the bullet hit his right armpit artery.
