The Papua Provincial Government is holding a mass Covid-19 vaccination in Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency, starting Monday (6/4/2021). A total of 6,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine are prepared for this purpose.
Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the Papua Provincial Health Office, Aaron Rumainum, in Jayapura, Monday afternoon, said that mass vaccinations in the two areas were carried out in five locations for three days. These five locations are the Suny Sentani Hotel, the Jayapura Regent's Office, the Cenderawasih University Auditorium, an autonomous office complex, and the Papua Provincial Government Office.
"Vaccination for residents with a minimum age of 18 years. Sinovac vaccine administration takes place from 09.00 to 15.00 WIT, "said Aaron.
He said this activity was aimed at increasing vaccination coverage in Papua Province. The activity was also to make the XX National Sports Week (PON) successful in Papua.
PON XX Papua will be held in four regions on 2-15 October 2021. These four areas include Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency.
From data from the Papua Provincial Health Office until April 1, 13,508 health workers have received the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccine and 11,286 health workers in the second phase.
For the category of public service workers, 61,147 people have received the first stage vaccine and 17,252 people in the second stage. For the category of elderly citizens, 2,272 people have received the first stage vaccine and 50 people in the second stage.
"The implementation of mass vaccinations in the City and District of Jayapura is thanks to the support of the local head of the region. Hopefully this activity can be held in other areas in Papua, "said Aaron. Papua Province consists of 29 districts / cities.
Chief Executive of the Papua Province Covid-19 Control, Prevention and Handling Task Force Welliam Manderi, when met separately in Jayapura, said that his party asked the central government to accelerate the distribution of the Sinovac vaccine in a number of districts in Papua. These areas are Jayapura Regency, Merauke Regency, and Mimika Regency.
"The distribution of Sinovac to Papua must be accelerated so that vaccination of the community is not hampered. Moreover, there are several regions in Papua that will hold a National Sports Week in October, ”said Welliam.
He added that vaccination could prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Papua from becoming more widespread. Covid-19 cases have been found in 1 city and 21 districts in Papua. From the latest data from the Papua Province Covid-19 Task Force, the cumulative number of cases reached 20,857 people, including 18,964 people recovered, 1,496 people were treated, and 397 people died.
