Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR), Ujang Komaruddin, assessed that the government's intention to expand the province in Papua was the right step. According to him, the community benefited from the expansion.
"Politically, this is indeed a step taken by the government," said Ujang Komaruddin in Jakarta, Saturday (10/4).
According to him, if the provinces in the Papua region increase, it will provide political benefits for both the government and the community. Ujang said that the political advantage that people get is the closer access to local government is.
So that the various aspirations and interests of the community will certainly be easier to obtain. Then the management of special autonomy funds for Papua will be better with the increase in the number of provinces.
"The expansion should be a momentum for the welfare of the people, a momentum for the special autonomy funds from the central government not to be corrupted, so that development can run," he said.
From the government side, expansion certainly has a positive impact because management, welfare and development plans in Papua will run well. In addition, expansion will also increase security stability in Papua.
"Pemekaran is right because Papua is a conflict area, an area that is indeed the mass base of the KKB. If the area is large, their strength (KKB) will be large, if it is divided (pemekaran), their strength will be small, because it is within a small territorial boundary "he said.
However, he continued, if the expansion is realized, there are several things that need to be considered. Like the design of the expansion area, a thorough academic study so that the expansion will really encourage development and improvement must accommodate the many factors needed when Papua is expanding. According to him, this is so that the expansion in the land of Papua can have a welfare impact on the local community.
