The XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) will take place in four clusters, namely Jayapura City and Regency, Mimika and Merauke, 2-15 October 2021.
Before the four-year grand event was held, people in the four districts / cities had to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
This statement was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of Papua, Klemen Tinal, to reporters in Jayapura, Monday, April 12, 2021. “The four districts that will host, 2/3 of the population must be vaccinated, so that PON can take place safely from Covid. And they (the community) can also be involved in the interaction to support PON and sell accessories and others, "he said.
According to the Deputy Governor, as the host of PON, residents around the PON venue must be vaccinated. In addition, athletes and officials from each province as well as the PON organizing committee in Papua are required to receive vaccines before being involved in it.
Previously, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali said that the Covid - 19 vaccination was not only aimed at athletes ahead of the PON event, but would also target people living around the location of the PON event.
