The best seven male students from Bumi Cenderawasih have the opportunity to study at three universities in the United States (US) in early January 2021.
Director of the Jakarta International College (JIC) Academy, Fransisca Laij in a press release received in Jayapura, Monday (8/3/2021) said the three universities were Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and Louisiana State University.
"The seven sons and daughters of indigenous Papuans have been nurtured and accompanied by us, have very good values and are ready to undergo education in America," he said.
The seven Papuan students are Jessica Rumfaker, Michael Saroge, Paleria Waibusi, Raffaela Wanimbo, Ronaldo Krey, Steve Fonataba and Yulandia Jufuway.
According to Fransisca, they were accepted at the three universities because they had high academic scores, English language skills and good mental skills.
"These children are accepted into the three best universities in America with extraordinary potential. We are very proud because the fields of study taken are very beneficial for Papua in the future, one of which is taking a special field of study in petroleum engineering," he said.
He explained that in the future, Papua will become one of the provinces in the country that will have the best Human Resources (HR), this is because the potential for Papuan children in mastery of science and technology is very high.
"I am optimistic that Papua has qualified human resources because education and human resource development are a priority where 10 to 20 years old, these children will master the sptek, I am sure of that," he said again.
He added that it should be appreciated to the Papua Provincial Government because even during the pandemic, education and human resource development programs were still running.
JIC Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions Patricia Rubena added that apart from the seven students, this year there are 38 students who will be sent to the US and divided into two batches, 23 in April and 15 in August.
"The Papuan students coached by JIC are the best indigenous Papuans and have the opportunity to study at various well-known universities in the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia," he said.
According to Patricia, students who are coached at JIC are tailored to the needs of the Papua Provincial Government with the main requirement that they have good academic, mental and language skills, then they are given the opportunity to choose the three best universities to study at various universities in the world.
Previously, the Acting Regional Secretary for Papua Province, Doren Wakerkwa, said that as many as 47 Papuan students (OAP) were scheduled to be sent to America in early 2021 to study at various universities in the region.
"As many as 47 OAP students consist of 45 students for undergraduate and postgraduate study programs, two of which are participants of the Papuan Excellence Student Affirmation Scholarship Program who are prepared to take undergraduate education abroad and have studied online up to Semester III, "said Doren.
