PON Rugby athletes are required to be able to pursue a physical level 12

Pengprov Association of Indonesian Rugby Union (PRUI) Bali obliges athletes who win PON XX / 2021 tickets to improve physically to levels 10-12 in less than 10 months.

This is because the PON Papua event is scheduled for October 2-13, 2021. The increase was made after the physical fitness of the Rugby athlete fell below level 10, during the second stage of the physical test at the end of 2020 ,.

"We have received the results of the second phase of the physical tests. Compared to the results of the first physical tests, the results have decreased. Therefore, we oblige athletes to improve their physical levels," said General Chair of PRUI Bali, Made Erawan.

According to Erawan, the second phase of the physical test was understandable because there was the implementation of the Covid-19 health protocol. The coaches also do not dare to take risks, after not being allowed to practice physical contact. Therefore, the athletes undergo independent training in their own homes. Occasional training in the Debes Tabanan Field with strict health protocols.

"We have to improve the physical level. Even though we do independent training, it should be maximized. Because pursuing a physical level is not easy. Moreover, currently his physical level is below 10," said Erawan.

Another thing to do, said the General Secretary of the KONI Gianyar, the quality of training also needs to be improved. According to Erawan, at this time he must direct to sports science methods in improving the quality of training. From initially twice a week, exercise was increased four times a week.

Then it continues up to six times a week during the three months leading up to PON, or around August 2021, namely training twice a day, morning and evening. In kick only once off. Up to a maximum of 12 meetings a week.

"We will apply this pattern to increase the physical level of athletes," explained Erawan. Erawan added that athlete's nutrition must also be considered. Promotion and relegation system still applies to low physical. If the physical level requirements are not met, they will definitely not be dispatched or crossed out to PON Papua.

"Currently, 14 Pelatda athletes are still training independently in the sports provincial government. While they are training independently and together in sports. However, the 14 Ugby Seven athletes are not yet a definitive fix. We will still see their progress for determining the definitive team," said Erawan.
