Acting Head (Plt) Head of the Papua Province Sports and Youth Office Alex Kapisa said the renovation of 12 competition arenas for the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON) had been completed. "So the 12 venues renovated for XX PON activities in 2021 have been 100 percent completed, all development uses the Papua APBD," said Alex.
A number of venues that have been renovated include GOR Cenderawasih, GOR Trikora, Mandala Stadium, and GOR Waringan. With the completion of the match arena work, the next committee only needs to focus on maintenance and maintenance of the venue so that it is still suitable for use when PON is held on October 2-14, 2021.
Therefore, the Papua Provincial Government is currently preparing institutions in the form of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for venue management to the regulation and budgeting support for the maintenance and maintenance of PON venues. Although many have been completed, there are still several new venues that are still being built, such as a tennis court at the Jayapura mayor's office, GOR GIDI, and an indoor volleyball gym.
In addition, there are still developments that need to be worked on, such as sand volleyball courts, indoor and outdoor shooting ranges, baseball and softball fields, sports equipment warehouses, as well as the construction of futsal fields in Mimika and Lukas Enembe Stadium. The venue preparation is divided into three categories. First, preparation of permanent venues, venues that must be renovated and venues that are temporary in nature.
"From the point of view of the preparation of the venue according to the target, it has been completed, except for the temporary venue that will begin construction in January 2021," said Alex.
Alex continued that there are four temporary venues that will only be built in January 2021. The four are venues for sailing, paragliding, diving and hang gliding. Overall, he continued, the process of building and renovating venues for the 37 sports competed in PON Papua has been 100 percent complete.
These venues are expected to be functional for every sport that wants to do a test event early next year. "Early in 2021 Papuan athletes can already test events at these venues," he said.
