Watch the pilkada, KPID Papua will form a broadcasting cluster

To oversee the implementation of the 2020 Pilkada which will be held in December, the Papua Province Regional Broadcasting Commission (KPID) together with the KPU and Bawaslu will form a broadcasting task force (KIP).

"Central KPI has (signed) the MoU with the KPU and Central Bawaslu. We want it to be done in the regions. We continue to communicate intensely, hoping that the KPU and Bawaslu Papua will collaborate, "said Deputy Chairman of the Papua Province Regional Broadcasting Commission, Eveerth Z. Joumilena, in a talk show broadcast on a radio in Jayapura City.

Joumilena said that currently KPID is in the coordination stage. Later it will supervise the broadcasting of the elections in 11 districts in Papua.

KPID hopes that the information content of the election campaign broadcasting will provide political education for the public to be democratic in an honest, fair and healthy manner.

Eveerth Joumilena said, KPID will involve community radios, especially in remote areas that are difficult to reach by broadcasting institutions during the elections. KPID noted that there are 37 television broadcasting services, 17 cable television services, and 35 radio broadcasting services in Papua.

"We will involve community radios in the regions. They have reach to the interior, such as radios in Yahukimo, Gunung Bintang, and public radio in Timika," he said.

Eleven districts will hold regional elections in December, namely Waropen, Supiori, Merauke, Yalimo, Boven Digoel, Asmat, Mamberamo Raya, Nabire, Keerom, Bintang Mountains and Yahukimo Regencies.

With the existence of the MoU, Jefri Simanjuntak, a member of the Papua KPID Broadcast Content Supervision Division, hopes that he will agree on the types of complaint mechanisms as well as KPID recommendations that can be followed up by the KPU and Bawaslu.

Jefri hopes that with the MoU, socialization by broadcasting media will be carried out immediately to reach 11 districts that will hold regional elections.

"There will be messages relating to the interests of the community so that later there will be a call center or complaint post considering our limitations in conducting supervision," he said.

The Papua KPID KPID Coordinator for Supervision of Broadcast Content, Nahria, hopes that the community will participate in directly monitoring broadcasting activities in the regional elections.

"We need complaints from the public, because usually the problems that arise we get from public complaints," he said.
