The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) prepares special souvenirs for athletes who win the XX / Papua 2021 National Sports Week (PON) event.
"We will give the winner the noken so that they can bring it back to their respective areas," said the Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office.
Tomi Mano said, the noken that will be given to athletes from outside the region who come out as champions are noken made of bark and thread, of good quality, and handicraft products from Papuan mothers.
"These souvenirs are a memento, when they have arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun," said Tomi Mano.
Tomi Mano hopes that this is also a form of promotion that the handicraft products made by Papuan mothers are no less good than in other regions, which are ready to compete both locally, nationally and internationally.
"I am grateful to mothers through the noken work that has also raised the good name of Jayapura City," said Tomi Mano.
Kadisperindagkop and UKM Kota Jayapura, Robert L.N. Awi, admitted that he is committed to continuing to encourage the economic growth of MSMEs so that they are competitive and contribute to the economy.
"Continue to be creative by producing noken products that have economic value. The noken made by Papuan mothers was very good. We continue to carry out coaching, training, and assistance to provide assistance so that noken craftsmen are enthusiastic in working, "said Awi.
