Bawaslu hopes that there will be no PSU in the West Papua Pilkada

The West Papua General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) hopes that there will be no re-voting (PSU) in the simultaneous regional elections to be held in nine regions in the province.

"We hope that KPPS will work well, adhere to existing regulations. We encourage our supervisors to work carefully, so that if there is a tendency that leads to violations it can be prevented," said West Papua Bawaslu member, Data and Information Law Division Coordinator M Nazil Hilmi.

He said that Bawaslu oversaw all stages of regional elections. For the implementation of voting on 9 December, his party has also prepared supervisors according to the number of polling stations prepared by the KPU.

"The total number of TPS spread across nine districts is 1,879 in total. One TPS will be supervised by a supervisor from Bawaslu," said Nazil again.

Meanwhile, for the technical implementation of voting, Nazil continued, the KPU recruited seven people per TPS as members of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS).

He hopes that the KPPS officers at 1,879 TPS will receive sufficient provisions, both in administrative aspects and regulations related to elections, so that they can work professionally during this election.

"Neutrality of the organizers of both the KPU and ranks as well as Bawaslu and ranks is important for the success of the 2020 simultaneous regional elections in West Papua," he said.

In this year's regional elections, Bawaslu also has a map and a vulnerability index. Areas that fall into the red zone will receive attention with tighter supervision.

According to him, there are three areas that need more attention, namely Manokwari, Kaimana, and Bintuni Bay Regencies. Bawaslu will provide more specific supervision in the three regions.

"From the Bawaslu's point of view, the vulnerability of the elections is not solely due to security factors. There are several indicators, including the level of fraud, identity politics, ASN neutrality and several other indicators," he said.

Bawaslu's efforts in the three vulnerable areas prioritize prevention, so that the regional elections run smoothly, safely, peacefully, healthy, honestly and fairly.
