Bali's mainstay high jump athlete I Made Gede Antara is determined to increase his jump height by another 10 cm at PON Papua XX / 2021.
In the last Pre PON, the jump was between 2.10 meters and in Papua he targeted the jump height to be 2.20 meters. The jump is believed to be able to break the current national record (rekornas), 2.15 meters. So Antara has to catch another 10 cm or at least 5 cm to match the record.
Currently my preparation is progressing well. Moreover, there is a separation of high jump training with running categories. I am at GOR Mengwi Badung. So mostly just physical exercise, "said Gede Antara.
According to him, the jump during Pre PON reached 2.10 meters and was the same as the results when winning four times at the National Championship or Pre PON in 2019, namely the East Java Open, Central Java Open, the Athletic National Championship, and the National Student Sports Week (Pomnas).
According to him, competitors during Pre PON were DKI Jakarta athletes Rizky Ghusafa, M Ari Desmn (West Sumatra), Safwan (North Sumatra), and M Hariadi (Riau). They became Antara's tough opponents at the national level. Even at the 2016 PON in West Jabawa, Rizky won gold with a 2 meter jump.
Antara admitted that he was very optimistic about looking at PON Papua. Although it is still a long way off, Antara hopes to increase its jump height.
