One by one venue for PON XX Papua 2021 completed ahead of schedule. The latest is the aquatic arena in Kampung Harapan, Sentani Timur District, cricket arena, and hockey fields (indoor and outdoor) in Doyo Baru Village, Waibu District.
In fact, the aquatic venue for PON Papua 2021 has received certification from the World Swimming Federation (FINA) on Monday (7/27/2020).
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono ensured that, although completed sooner, the construction of the Papua PON venue was in accordance with the Construction Safety Committee (Committee K2).
Basuki Hadimuljono also hoped that the venue that had been completed and received international certification could be an icon of pride for Papua and Indonesia.
"It is hoped that the completion of the PON venue will not only be the pride of Papua, but all of the people of Indonesia. And can encourage young people, especially Papuan athletes, to be more enthusiastic and accomplished to become champions, both at national and international levels," Basuki Hadimuljono said in a Ministry release. Concerning certification from FINA for the aquatic venue, the Chairperson of the PB PRSI Certification Division under the supervision of FINA via video conference, used a random sampling method to measure the pool arena according to Olympic standards.
Director of Strategic Infrastructure Directorate General of Cipta Karya Ministry of PUPR Iwan Suprijanto claimed to be relieved after seeing the results of the measurement and checking.
Based on the results of checking and measurement, it was concluded that the Field of Play or PON Venue Aquatic PON Pool in Papua, according to FINA international standards.
"The hope is that investment in sports infrastructure built in international standards in Papua will be an investment in sports achievements, especially swimming," Iwan Suprijanto said.
PON XX Papua was originally scheduled for October 20-November 2, 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic made the PON schedule go back a year to October 2-13, 2021.
