The Chairperson of the MRP, Timotius Murib said the joint meeting of the MRP Working Group (Pokja) was conducted to form a working committee that would prepare a hearing for the evaluation of the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus).
"Joint meeting of the Working Group in the framework of forming a working committee towards RDP some time in the future," Murib said in Jayapura on Thursday (07/30/2020).
Murib said in the joint meeting, each MRP Working Group equated a shared understanding of what needed and had to be done in all stages of the evaluation of Papua's Special Autonomy.
"Bringing together perception, steps, discussing things is done as a scenario in order to listen to the aspirations of all components of indigenous Papuans in the provinces of Papua and West Papua," Murib said.
According to him, the evaluation phase of the Papua Special Autonomy carried out by the MRP is in accordance with the provisions of Article 77 of Law Number 21 Year 2001 concerning Papua's Special Autonomy (the Papua Special Autonomy Law), which stipulates that the evaluation of the Papua Special Autonomy is carried out by Papuans, indigenous Papuans, through the MRP and Papua's House of Representatives (DPR).
"We are doing this according to the mandate of the Papua Special Autonomy Law, Article 77. The proposed change to the Papua Special Autonomy Law is carried out by the people of Papua through the MRP and the Papuan Parliament to the Indonesian Parliament and the central government," Murib said.
According to Murib, the Papua Parliament also began carrying out the stages of evaluating the Papua Special Autonomy, including by forming a Special Committee (Special Committee) for the Special Autonomy of Papua.
"Papua Parliament has formed a special committee. MRP conveyed the team that had been formed, and starting on Monday the RDP phases began, "Murib said.
The team formed by the MRP will meet with the Papua Province Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, and convey the MRP's plan to hold an RDP evaluation on Papua's Special Autonomy. Thus, there will be joint coordination ahead of the RDP with all components of the Papuan people.
Members of the MRP Religious Working Group, John Wob, who is the envoy of the Archdiocese of Merauke, added that he really hopes that all components of the Papuan people participate in the legal mechanism in conveying their assessment of the implementation of Papua's Special Autonomy. Whatever aspirations the Papuan people want to convey, the RDP MRP and the Papua Parliament will be the right place.
"The RDP that will be implemented [the MRP and the Papua Parliament will be] a place where the people express their aspirations [whatever, be it] aspirations [demanding] refrendum or [choosing] autonomy. Therefore, let's have one purpose and goal, for the sake of a better Papua, "said Wob.
