Commander of Kodam XVIII / Kasuari, Maj. Gen. Abraham Sopaheluwakan, M.Si in his remarks conveyed that the intentions and objectives of the XVIII / Cassowary Military Commander to visit Bomberay District, Fakfak Regency is that West Papua does not depend on rice imports, the Commander of the Military Commander and his entourage came to the Bomberay District of Fakfak Regency to see firsthand, whether Bomberay can be used as a granary.
"In the Bomberay area itself, soil fertility is increasing and for fruits and vegetables it is quite safe in season. Whereas rice has expanded and the area of the rainy season and the dry season is very clear, "Abraham said.
Responding to the exposure that has been delivered related to agriculture by the Regent of Fakfak, the Regional Military Commander hopes that the regional government can continue to develop this area (Fakfak Regency) so that what is expected in the future, Fakfak can become a rice granary area for West Papua.
"Our hope for the future, so that this can be the same as in the Merauke area and hopefully better than Merauke. We will coordinate this with other relevant agencies later ". he explained.

In another part, the Head of the Agriculture and Food Security Department of Fakfak Regency, Muhammad Sholeh, S.Hut. revealed that specifically for rice fields, 542 hectares had been worked out between the Regional Government and the TNI. The rest is done through the Ministry of Agriculture itself. So the total area of rice fields that have been printed as much as 1200 hectares.
"In the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic, up to now the fields that we can plant today are only rain-fed up to 152 hectares," Muhammad Sholeh said.
