Just waiting for the central permit, PLTMG Pomako Papua is ready to operate

The ranks of PT PLN (Persero) Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) Timika, Papua are awaiting the issuance of an Operational Decent (SLO) from the Central PLN Board of Directors to operate an Oil and Gas Power Plant (PLTMG) in the Pomako Port area, Timika.

UP3 PLN Manager Timika Hotman Ambarita told Antara in Timika, said the Pomako PLTMG power capacity that has been prepared by the Pomako PLTMG is currently at 10 megawatts from the overall plan of up to 50 megawatts. Last January, the Pomako PLTMG engine was tested and the cable network connecting the main station at SP4 and SP2 Timika.

"Now we are just waiting for SLO from the center. We cannot be sure when the Pomako PLTMG can be operated. If our power reserves at PLN Timika are currently limited, of course we will propose the operation of the Pomako PLTMG as soon as possible. Clearly operationally the Pomako PLTMG is ready and ready. tested, there are no problems, "said Hotman.

The Pomako PLTMG was built by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of PLN. Hotman said that the current electric power available at PLN Timika was sufficient with an available capacity of around 30 megawatts. The peak electricity usage in Timika is currently around 24-25 megawatts, so there is still a power reserve of around 5-6 megawatts.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, electricity consumption increased mainly in household consumers, inversely proportional to industrial consumers and government offices and businesses such as hotels, shops and others.

"Since the government's restriction policy has been put in place to prevent transmission of COVID-19, there has indeed been an increase in electricity consumption for household consumers. This is because people are now being asked to stay at home. While electricity consumption is in government offices, hotels, shops and other business places decreased quite dramatically because business activities were restricted, "explained Hotman.

At present the number of PLN customers in Timika UP3 is 63,000, where the most customers are in Timika City and the rest are in the districts of Asmat, Yahukimo and Nduga and inland villages that are now starting to enjoy electricity through the Papua Light Program.
