DIY NPC encourages its athletes to focus on the preparation for the 2021 National Papua Paralympic Week

The DIY National Paralympic Committee (NPC) encourages athletes to focus on preparing for the Papua National Paralympic (Peparnas) 2021. This is due to the cancellation of the Philippines ASEAN Games (APG) event which was originally held this year.

The Chairperson of DIY NPC, Hariyanto, said, with the cancellation of the Philippine APG, all DIY NPC athletes who entered the National Training (Pelatnas) were asked to shift their focus of achievement targets. Namely to defend DIY in the upcoming Peparnas event.

"Indeed there are some Pelatnas athletes who are DIY contingents for Peparnas tomorrow. So I hope they can shift their achievement targets for the event, "he explained, Thursday (05/14/2020).

He explained, in yesterday's DIY National Training Board sent 10 athletes. They are divided into several branches, namely 3 people archery, 1 person table tennis, 2 athletes wheelchair basketball, 1 athlete bowling, 1 person chess, and 2 athlete goalball.

Hariyanto also asked the athletes to keep their spirits up. Because in the future there will still be other international-scale sporting events that they can participate in. So they must continue to prepare themselves so that they can re-enter the National Pelatnas.

"We also ask our friends to be able to maintain semanga, of course in the future many other events will be prepared to represent DIY and Indonesia," he said.

Previously, Menpora Zainudin Amali confirmed that the APG of the Philippines, which was originally held in January 2020 and was scheduled to take place in March 2020 and was postponed back to October 2020, was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through the Kemenpora social media account, Zainudin said the cancellation was certainly disappointing for Indonesian athletes who have been preparing themselves in Surakarta since some time ago. Moreover, Indonesia set a target of the overall champion in the event with the achievement of 100 gold medals.
