Papua extends social restrictions

The Government of the Papua Province has decided to raise the emergency alert status to be an emergency response to the handling of the corona virus in Papua Province for the next 28 days, from April 9 to May 6, 2020.

During the emergency alert, the Papua Provincial Government will also continue to restrict access to and from Papua for the next two weeks.

"With the status of the emergency response, the limitation of people from and out of Papua through airports and ports was extended from 09-23 April 2020. During this restriction, commercial flights or ships entering Papua are not permitted," stressed the Deputy Governor of Papua, Tinal Klemen in the State Building, Jayapura City, Wednesday (8/4) afternoon.

"As for cargo flights carrying logistics, medicines, health workers, and security, they will continue to operate normally," he added.

In addition, the government decided to extend school holidays and work from home for the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) from April 14-23, 2020. Furthermore, limiting the hours of community activity throughout Papua, which is only 8 hours.

"The entire market, shops, kiosks, malls and supermarkets are only active for 8 hours from 06.00-14.00 CET, as well as closing all tourist attractions and nightclubs. While pharmacies, hospitals, health centers and doctors practice open as usual, "he explained.

Klemen added, the government would also take firm action against residents who were still gathered and carried out activities that gathered many people.

"We will take action firmly on citizens who still violate the government's recommendations by gathering. Officials will patrol every day to disperse the crowd, "he explained.
