PON 2020 Papua Is Still According to the Original Schedule

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Menpora Zainudin Amali ensured that the 2020 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua so far remained on schedule, despite adjustments in preparation.

According to the schedule, PON XX will be held on October 20 to November 2 in four clusters namely Jayapura Regency, Jayapura City, Mimika Regency, and Marauke Regency.

In the midst of the outbreak of the Corona virus, the central and regional governments are still preparing for the national-level sports party to run on schedule.

Zainudin Amali said the government had not planned to issue a delay or cancellation option because it still hoped the COVID-19 pandemic could end soon.

"Until now the government is still sticking with the original plan, while monitoring and paying attention to the existing situation," Amali said, Monday (3/23/2020).

Of course various options must be prepared because preparations from various regions and sports have been done in advance. We still hope that COVID-19 disease will end soon so that our plan to hold PON on time can continue.

"But if within a certain time the outbreak has not stopped even more widespread and serious, we will ask the President's direction. Are we delaying or other directives, but to this day we are still preparing," he said.

As preparations continue, he also prepares prevention to reduce the spread of corona.

"Of course, by limiting things that involve a lot of people, which will certainly affect workers who prepare athletes venues or venues for athletes. While the government has not decided to postpone or be stopped," he said.
