President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed, one of the government's determination is to carry out equitable development in several areas such as in Papua and West Papua. In addition, the eastern part of Indonesia will not escape his attention, such as Sulawesi, Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara.

"Lags in those regions need to get our attention both through accelerating infrastructure development, encouraging investment in, developing special economic zones, and opening up industrial zones," Jokowi said at the President's Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
.
Therefore, I would like to emphasize a thorough evaluation of the governance and effectiveness of the distribution of these special autonomy funds. In a limited meeting (ratas) about a new policy regarding Papua's special autonomy fund, Jokowi explained several things that needed to be prioritized.

From 2002 to 2020, Jokowi said, the provinces of Papua and West Papua had obtained special autonomy funds (otsus) with a nominal value of Rp 94.24 trillion, which almost every year had increased.
.
Jokowi emphasized that the special autonomy fund is one of the instruments used by the central government to accelerate development in Bumi Cenderawasih.
.
"In accordance with statutory provisions, these Papua and West Papua special autonomy funds will end in 2021, so we need a new policy regarding this special autonomy fund. Therefore I want to emphasize a comprehensive evaluation of governance and effectiveness of the distribution of these special autonomy funds, "said the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.
.
In the future, Jokowi hopes that the existing budget management can be carried out properly and optimally. He stressed, the use of the budget must be felt impacts and benefits by the people in Papua and West Papua.
.
"So it is very important that good governance, distribution, whether it has really been delivered to the community, whether it is right on target, what the output is like. And most importantly we must see the extent of its impact. Whether the special autonomy funds have been felt directly the benefits are for the people in Papua and West Papua, "Jokowi said.
