BI Develop Raja Ampat Tourism Village

Bank Indonesia Representative of the Province of West Papua continues to encourage foreign exchange earnings and reduce the current account deficit (CAD) through an increase in the tourism sector. One of them is helping local governments develop tourist villages in the Raja Ampat Regency.
.
Head of Bank Indonesia Representative, West Papua Province Donny H Heatubun said that his party always synergizes with the regional government. Namely by making a tourism development roadmap concept.
.
"In Raja Ampat, we focus on developing a tourism village in Kampung Sauwandarek, Meos Mansar District," Donny said.
.
Raja Ampat was chosen because tourist arrivals in the area continue to increase from year to year, both domestic and foreign. Previously the Central Statistics Agency noted, since 2012 tourist arrivals, tourists are still very dominant reaching 79 percent compared to domestic tourists.
.
Like Kampung Sauwandarek, which is one of the dive and snorkeling spot locations that are very popular with tourists. Based on data from local tourism managers, the number of tourists per town in the village ranges from 100 to 150 people per day.
.
On the other hand, supporting facilities, such as docks and other facilities at these locations are inadequate. Seeing these conditions and opportunities, BI in 2019 planned and built floating dock support facilities in Kampung Sauwandarek in the form of gates, tourist toilets and water storage towers.
.
"This year we are planning to build a floating dock, shelter and UMKM shanties. In addition, we will also carry out repairs to the old pier that is no longer suitable for use, "said Donny.
.
He explained, the development of the tourist village was a follow up to the results of the identification of the Bank Indonesia team together with the Raja Ampat Tourism and Culture Office. The identification was focused on the needs of the tourism village in order to run optimally with the support of the local village government.
.
Donny hopes that BI intervention will be a stimulus for the local government and other institutions in encouraging tourism in West Papua. He hopes that all stakeholders work together in developing the concept of eco tourism while promoting the preservation of nature at the site of attractions.
