The Merauke Regency Government has prepared 150 hectares of land for the South Papua administrative center

The Merauke Regency Government is preparing a 150-hectare land that will be used as the center of government for South Papua Province. The location of the said land is in Salor, Kurik District, Merauke Regency.

The Head of the Merauke Regency Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency, Elias Mite, told Jubi, Thursday (15/12/2022), stated that the land would be granted to the South Papua Provincial Government, and was prepared to become the center of the South Papua Province administration (PPS), including for development governor's office, service office and others.

"The 150 hectare land is for the PPS government center, including the governor's office, located in Salor. But later the South Papua Provincial Government will also look at the land requirements. If it doesn't reach 100 hectares, then we will grant it according to the real needs in the field," said Elias.

Elias said that the planned land grant to the South Papua Provincial Government had been included as a recommendation from the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia - BPK on the Audit Report - LHP on the financial reports of the Merauke Regency Government.

"Regarding the LHP that we received in Jayapura yesterday with the BPK, that is the LHP regarding the assets that we handed over to the South Papua Provincial Government. Among them is land for the South Papua Provincial Government," said Elias Mite.

It was said, there were several agreements between the Merauke Regency Government and the South Papua Provincial Government regarding grants and also the transfer of assets, including land for the South Papua Provincial Government, borrowing and using buildings, namely the governor's office, the Asmat Hotel, the BPKAD office building, and also the official residence of the regional secretary and home of the acting governor of South Papua.

"Then with regards to the grant money for South Papua Province, that is also part of the LHP that we received yesterday. There are indeed records regarding a number of these assets, the first is that they (BPK) conveyed to us the ownership of the surrendered premises, such as the Asmat Hotel. The assets of the Asmat Hotel still belong to the Papua Province. This is what we will try to coordinate with the Papua Province for the transfer or transfer of assets to PPS," he said.

"Then regarding the land that we will hand over to PPS covering an area of 150 hectares, there are agreements which essentially will see the real needs of the South Papua Provincial Government. If the need does not reach 100 hectares, we will hand it over according to the needs in the field. The rest remains as land assets belonging to the Merauke Regency Government. That was related to yesterday's LHP," concluded Elias.
