The government of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua, shared the love of Christmas and distributed 1,000 packages of staples and drinks to widows, the elderly and orphans, Thursday.
The Regent of Biak Numfor Herry Ario Naap asked recipients of the Christmas staple food packages to be able to take advantage of having a meal and drink with their families during Christmas 25 December 2022.
"Don't look at the size of the Christmas aid, but this is a real manifestation of the local government's attention to easing the burden on widows, the poor and orphans while welcoming Christmas," said Biak Numfor Regent Herry Naap in Biak, Thursday.
Herry Naap said that the distribution of staple food packages was for the needs of the people of Biak Numfor during Christmas.
When the residents of Biak Numfor were registered to receive Christmas staple food packages, according to the Regent, the list of residents' identities had been validated through the local sub-district and village.
"All the identities of the recipients of the Christmas staple food packages have been confirmed as authentic because the data was directly recorded by the heads of the sub-districts concerned," said Biak Numfor Regent Herry Naap.
One of the widows who received the staple food package assistance, Mama Krey, admitted that she was deeply moved by the distribution of the Christmas staple packages given by the Biak Numfor Regency Government through Regent Herry Ario Naap and Biak Numfor Deputy Regent Calvin Mansnembra.
"I should be grateful for the assistance of a package of Christmas staples from the Biak Numfor Regency Government. Yes, this is the first time I have received Christmas assistance from the local government," said Mama Krey.
He admitted, packages of Christmas staples such as rice, sugar, syrup, flour and drinks were needed by the widows, the elderly and orphans.
"We feel very helped by the Christmas love assistance program from Regent Herry Naap and Deputy Regent Calvin Mansnembra because the residents really need it," said Mama Krey.
In addition to the Christmas staple food packages, the Biak Numfor Regency Government also distributed four three-wheeled motorbikes to transport garbage in Anggaduber Village, Oridek District and Sorido Village, Biak Kota District.
As well as the distribution of hybrid coconut plant seeds, chilies, vegetables and a hand tractor to the Biak Numfor farmer group.
