The efforts of the Biak Numfor Regency Government and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of young people in the Land of Papua continue to be driven, by collaborating with the small and medium micro business community or MSME native Papuans.
The land of Papua, which is known to be rich with various regional advantages, is an economic opportunity for the people and promises that native Papuans will be more prosperous. Therefore, an independent entrepreneurial spirit must be revived in order to lead to a new Papua according to Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua.
Head of the Papuan Mama Traders Community Tia Warwe in Biak invites young Papuans in Biak Numfor Regency to dare to become entrepreneurs by taking advantage of the opportunities and potential of Biak Numfor's superior natural resources, especially in the fisheries, marine and tourism sectors.
Opportunities to pursue the business world for young Papuan eyebrows are wide open and will receive support from the local government and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives.
"It's time for young Papuans to rise to become entrepreneurs, take advantage of the rich potential of natural resources to be processed into new economic resources and open up job opportunities for indigenous Papuans," said Tia.
Currently, the government is providing facilities for indigenous Papuan business actors, such as assistant staff, access to business capital, management coaching, product design assistance, to marketing MSME products.
The various facilities and support provided by the government for the development of small and medium enterprises in the Land of Papua have given new hope to young Papuans who wish to enter the business world, so that they can become "masters in their own country" by managing, processing, producing, and selling potential natural resources. Papuan nature.
The presence of the government through the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises such as establishing the Biak Integrated Business Service Center (PLUT) and promoting an entrepreneurial spirit among indigenous Papuan youths is an appropriate program. This is a challenge for young Papuans to manage the potential of natural resources so that they have added value.
"We have to change the mindset of young native Papuans by daring to pursue entrepreneurship which promises opportunities to improve the family economy and open up job opportunities for others," said Tia Warwe, a business consultant for the Mama Papua Traders Community in Jayapura.
As an example of the potential of natural resources in Biak in the form of the marine fisheries sector. Many tuna can be processed into packaged smoked fish products as food ingredients and souvenirs.
The business opportunity to be able to produce smoked fish in Biak is still open, it remains only now how indigenous young people can read and seize promising business opportunities economically.
"The smoked tuna business in Biak is very profitable if it is managed with sincerity and patience to generate money for family needs," said the native Papuan woman from the Biak tribe.
Papuan entrepreneur
Assistant Deputy for Business Ecosystems Deputy for Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Irwansyah Putra said that to spur growth and development of entrepreneurship in the country, the government has issued Presidential Regulation Number 2 of 2022 concerning National Entrepreneurship Development.
Therefore, efforts are needed to create a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem, including through cross-sectoral synergies, standardization, and integration of program implementation at both the central and regional levels, as well as developing business processes within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
In 2022, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs has provided a place for assistance to MSME actors, especially in Biak Numfor Regency through the presence of an integrated business service center which was built in 2022 with a budget of IDR 9.5 billion.
"This is a collaboration of various parties, both the Central and local governments, the business world, and various other stakeholders to jointly encourage young Papuans to become innovative and sustainable entrepreneurs," said Irwansyah.
He asked young Papuans to have a strong determination to become entrepreneurs. In order to be able to move up a class, they need to receive support from various programs and incentives from the government, as well as synergy with various parties to encourage the emergence of entrepreneurs who are able to absorb a large number of workers.
The presence of an integrated business service center in Biak is expected to increase the entrepreneurial spirit for young native Papuans and become a driving force for the birth of new, strong and independent entrepreneurs going forward.
The government through the Ministry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and the local government together with the indigenous Papuan business community continues to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit to continue to grow among indigenous Papuan youth.
Challenge for young people
Adan, a student in Biak, admits that the government's invitation to become entrepreneurs is a challenge for young native Papuans after finishing college.
"Being a young Papuan entrepreneur who is independent and resilient is not as easy as words. It must be done with sincerity, perseverance and patience. All of this must be a process," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Biak Numfor Calvin Mansnembra acknowledged that the presence of the government through the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises which has built an integrated business service center building facility in Biak Numfor Regency can help young native Papuans deepen their business knowledge.
The integrated business service center equipped with consultants is expected to be able to provide information and assistance to prospective young entrepreneurs native to Papua.
The invitation to become young entrepreneurs is a challenge that must be answered by young native Papuans. Papua has abundant natural resources in the marine fisheries, mining, plantation, forestry and agriculture sectors.
All that wealth will only stop in the form of potential if no one has the courage to become an entrepreneur who is able to process it and then get added value to improve the welfare of indigenous Papuans.
