Officials from the Papua Province National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) are monitoring the handling of stunting in Jayawijaya Regency to ensure that in the 2024 evaluation, stunting has fallen to 14 percent.
Head of BKKBN Papua Province Representative, Nerius Auparay in Wamena, Wednesday, said that from the survey results of Indonesia's nutritional status, the prevalence rate in Papua Province is still above the national average, which is 29.5 percent, while the national average is 24.4 percent.
"Mr President wants the stunting prevalence rate to be 14 percent by 2024, so if we reduce it in this short time we should reach approximately 5.5 percent of the stunting prevalence rate in Papua Province so that we can reach the target expected by Mr President," he said.
In the framework of reducing the stunting rate, through the Decree of the Governor of Papua Number: 188.4/140/Year 2022 a provincial stunting reduction acceleration team (TPPS) has been formed. The team has the task of coordinating and synergizing with a number of districts up to villages or sub-districts to accelerate the reduction of stunting at the provincial level.
"So friends from the representatives of the Papua Province Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) have already held trials in Jayawijaya Regency regarding the implementation of accelerated stunting handling and we hope that this year the number will decrease and not increase," he said.
Regional Secretary (Sekda) Jayawijaya Thony Mayor appreciated BKKBN Papua for coordinating stunting handling activities in Jayawijaya. The Jayawijaya government hopes that from the meeting with the BKKBN, they will obtain new information as an evaluation in program preparation, activities in the coming year to reduce stunting in 40 districts throughout Jayawijaya Regency.
"We will continue to conduct outreach to the community so that they get knowledge about how to reduce stunting rates, for example about health and consuming nutritious food, especially for pregnant women so that their children are born healthy," he said.
The meeting related to the handling of stunting which took place at a hotel in Jayawijaya was attended by 48 participants consisting of BKKBN Papua leaders and staff, the Head of BPKP Papua, and the Jayawijaya Regency stunting reduction acceleration team.
