The government cooperates with the West Papuan Association of Churches of Papua (PGGP) to boost development and improve welfare in West Papua and Papua.
This was revealed in the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Communion of Churches of Papua (PGGP) West Papua which was held in Sowi Gunung, Manokwari, West Papua. This activity was attended by representatives of the Secretariat of the Vice President (Setwapres), namely the assistant to the special staff of the Vice President, Khamami Zada and the Chair of the Papua PGGP Pdt. Hiskia Rollo.
The presence of the Setwapres Team in the 10th Anniversary is a follow-up to the friendship between the PGGP of West Papua and Papua to the Vice President's Palace in Jakarta some time ago.
Chairman of the West Papua PGGP Pdt. Sherly Parinussa explained that his party is a representative institution for churches in West Papua which was formed on October 17, 2012.
It was formed through the West Papuan Church Leaders Conference which consists of more than 53 church denominations with a population composition of 61.75 percent.
"The West Papua PGGP has played a role as a consultative, coordinating, aspirational forum as well as the Church's struggle in the Land of Papua and outside Papua," he was quoted as saying Wednesday (2/11/2022).
Sherly Parinussa added, PGGP West Papua is not only fighting for the interests of the church but also for the good of the entire pluralistic society. This is so that they can live in harmony and peace as fellow countrymen according to the ideals of the Indonesian nation.
"The development cannot be handled only by the government, but must embrace all parties including the church, in this case we are PGGP. Because the church touches the community to remote corners," he said.
Therefore, his party and the central government collaborate to carry out various community programs.
"Development programs for acceleration in West Papua which are recommendations from PGGP Papua and West Papua are mainly in the context of solving poverty, education, health and MSMEs. We continue to coordinate with the Vice President for the accelerated development program in Papua and West Papua," he said.
He further explained that the educational program that became the recommendation was related to the shortage of teachers and also about the opening of elementary and kindergarten teacher programs in Christian higher education and Christian foundations.
"As for MSMEs, there will be the construction of Church Community Work Training Centers (BLKs)," he said.
Meanwhile, Khamami Zada said that the government is very serious in developing the Land of Papua to be more advanced and prosperous as mandated by the Special Autonomy Law for Papua.
"Therefore President Jokowi has issued Presidential Regulation No. 121 of 2022 concerning the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of the Special Autonomy Region of Papua, which is chaired by the Vice President. It is hoped that through this agency there will be an acceleration of development in the Land of Papua to achieve a prosperous Papuan people," he stressed.
The government focuses on partnership programs, including with PGGP. "For this year, we will build an advocacy training community BLK and the plan for next year is the construction of the Papua Christian Center," he said.
Zada also said that what the government was doing was an answer to the recommendations made by PGGP some time ago in Papua.
"This development acceleration will be carried out in all lines of people's lives in Papua and West Papua," he explained.
