The Government of Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua has allocated a budget of Rp. 2.7 billion in the 2022 APBD Amendment for social protection spending in the context of handling regional inflation after the adjustment of subsidized fuel prices.
Deputy Regent Andarias Kayukatuy in Isei Wasior, Friday, said that the budget was used, among other things, to increase subsidy spending on two private ships that have been serving the Wasior-Manokwari PP route, namely KM Ekspress Bahari and KM Margareth.
"So there will be no increase in ticket prices," explained Andi, Andarias Kayukatuy's nickname at the opening of the Wondama Bay DPRD plenary meeting with the agenda for discussing the 2022 APBD Amendments.
Previously, Regent Hendrik Mambor explained the scheme prepared by the Teluk Wondama Regency Government to maintain inflation after the fuel price adjustment was by providing transportation subsidies, especially sea and land transportation.
The goal is that transportation service providers do not increase transportation fares which can have an impact on increasing the price of goods.
"If we provide subsidies, we hope that they will not increase ticket fares. So we will prepare subsidies to motorcycle taxi drivers. That is a policy made by the regional government to limit the increase in the price of goods," explained Mambor.

In a working meeting with the Teluk Wondama DPRD some time ago, the Head of the Transportation Service, Bernadus Setiawan, revealed that his party had received notification letters from KM Ekspress Bahari and KM Margareth regarding the increase in ship rates.
The KM Express Bahari ticket increased by Rp. 100 thousand, from Rp. 325 thousand to Rp. 425 thousand. Meanwhile, the increase in KM Margareth ticket rates is around 30 percent.
"We ask the ship management to be patient in increasing ticket prices, because they need to be discussed first," said Bernard.
The residents of Teluk Wondama themselves hope that the increase in fuel prices will not be followed by an increase in ship fares or land transportation rates, especially motorcycle taxis.
If it is forced to be increased, it is hoped that the increase in transportation fares is not too high so that it does not increase the burden on the community.
"If you can, you don't have to go up, because now everything is expensive. We feel sorry for this small community. The government please arrange it well so that the community does not get more difficult," said Maria Karubuy, a housewife in Wasior City.
