Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw explained the achievements of the region at the West Papua Anniversary (HUT) commemoration ceremony, Wednesday.
When delivering his mandate at a ceremony to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of West Papua in Manokwari, he said, among other things, that the human development index of West Papua has increased significantly from 62.99 in 2017 to 65.26 in 2021.
According to him, this achievement is the result of the work of all state civil servants at the provincial and district/city levels with support from government partners such as state-owned enterprises, regional-owned enterprises, and non-governmental organizations.
He said that the next regional achievement was the success of the regional government in keeping the inflation rate below three percent as well as drafting special regional regulations and provincial regulations regarding the implementation and supervision of special autonomy in Papua and West Papua.
The Acting Governor said that the provincial government would continue to implement West Papua's main development programs, which include improving the quality of human resources, economic development and community empowerment, and increasing connectivity through the construction of basic infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
The West Papua development program also includes efforts to manage the environment and natural resources in a just and sustainable manner, improve the management of government administration and public services, as well as maintain regional stability and community resilience.
Waterpauw asked all government officials in West Papua Province to improve their ability, professionalism, discipline, and work ethic to optimize government performance.
"I also remind you to avoid the practice of corruption, collusion, and nepotism, because right now if we take a less productive attitude, we will definitely face the law," he said.
He also invited the people of West Papua to increase participation in the implementation of regional development and maintenance of regional security and peace.
