The chairman of the Papua Land Deliberative Body Forum, Frans Ansanai, said that it would not be appropriate if the case of alleged corruption in the APBD and Rp1 billion gratification involving the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was settled using customary law.
"I do not apply customary law in Papua to recommend someone to be processed in the context of a criminal act of corruption," said Frans in a discussion held by the Moya Institute, entitled "Lukas Enembe Drama: KPK Tested", monitored from the Moya Institute YouTube channel, Jakarta, Friday. .
If someone who commits a violation is later found and suspected of not admitting his actions and covering up, said Frans continued, then there are customary curses that can be an impact for people who defend themselves to hide their actions.
"It is not true if this is drawn into a process in customary law in Papua," said Frans asserted.
Frans asked Lukas to go through any legal stages properly. If not, the government can take firm steps against the person concerned in his capacity as governor.
On the same occasion, political observers and strategic issues Prof. Imron Cotan assessed that the government must be recognized as having shown good faith to advance the Land of Papua. This is proven, among others, through the issuance of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 08/2020, which is designed to accelerate the development and welfare of the Papuan people, involving all relevant ministries and institutions.
“The realization of this good faith also includes an increase in the amount of the special autonomy fund for Papua from two percent of the national General Allocation Fund to 2.25 percent. It is proper that the government's good will is balanced equally by stakeholders in Papua," said Imron.
Moya Institute Executive Director Hery Sucipto said the government's positive policy to develop Papua had been undermined by its regional leaders. Therefore, according to Hery, Lukas Enembe must somehow be legally responsible for the alleged violations of the law he committed.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was recorded to have named Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect on September 5, 2022, for alleged cases of gratification and corruption in the Papua Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) amounting to Rp. 1 billion.
