Head of the Papuan Guardian Tribe Asks Lukas Enembe to respect the law regarding his case at the KPK

Head of the Wali Tribe in Papua Melianus Wali asked Governor Lukas Enembe to respect the applicable law regarding his case at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The KPK has also denied the alleged criminalization of Enembe.

"Lukas Enembe's corruption case is purely a legal case and there is no politicization," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday (2/10/2022).

He emphasized that Lukas Enembe must obey the law, if he feels innocent he should have the courage to prove before the law in force in Indonesia. Melianus said that Lukas as a government official should have known the rule of law and cooperatively provided information to the KPK.

"Lukas Enembe must face the legal process with courage and big heart," he said.

In addition, he appealed to the community to return to their respective homes and live quietly with their families rather than defending Lukas Enembe at his residence.

"Give the KPK the opportunity to do its job well," he ordered.

He hopes that all Papuan people must be able to create a peaceful situation and not be provoked by incitements that can harm Papuans. Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regretted that there were parties who developed opinions so that Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe avoided being investigated.

"KPK regrets the alleged existence of parties who then develop opinions so that witnesses and suspects avoid the KPK's examination," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in Jakarta, last Friday (30/9/2022).

Ali said that every case handled, including the case of Lukas Enembe, was purely law enforcement. This, he said, was merely a follow-up to the public's report to the KPK.

"So we ask certain parties not to confuse and provoke the public with narratives of criminalization and politicization," said Ali.
