President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated the latest technology implemented in the underground mine owned by PT Freeport Indonesia, namely 5G Underground Smart Mining. This technology allows mining activities to be controlled remotely, thereby increasing work safety and company operational productivity.
"Today we are proving that we have moved ahead by implementing the first 5G smart mining in Southeast Asia," said Jokowi at the Freeport Indonesia mine site in Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Papua, Thursday, September 1, 2022. This technology is the result of a collaboration between Freeport and PT Telkomsel. "We must not be left behind and must be able to compete in all sectors that are increasingly digitized," said Jokowi.
The head of state said he was happy to hear that this underground mine, which had very difficult terrain, could be controlled remotely. He is also happy because 99 percent of the total employees who control this technology are native to Indonesia, especially from Papua.
So that through this 5G Underground Smart Mining technology, Jokowi said underground mining activities can be monitored using cameras connected to artificial intelligence. This technology can reduce the risk of work accidents.
Jokowi also believes that this technology will make Freeport Indonesia even more considered at the global level. Including, producing more and more quality mining human resources in the world and contributing greatly to the progress of the Indonesian mining industry. The head of state also asked other mining sectors to immediately apply artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IOT), machine learning to big technology. data in mining operations. Jokowi said technological intervention was needed to advance the mining sector.
"Like PT Freeport, it is located in remote and difficult to reach areas with geographical challenges and connectivity that is not easy," said Jokowi.
